Bo Waterside

Region

Bo Waterside is a border town in the West African Republic of Liberia. It is located in Tewor District of Grand Cape Mount County. The town is located some 30 kilometers (direct distance) north of the County Capital Sports Robert on the left bank and lower reaches of the Mano River, on the border with Sierra Leone.

The place was first known in the 1970s with the opening of a border crossing and a modern bridge. The construction of these buildings had been decided in 1974 with the founding of the Mano River Union. With the bridge of the border traffic and tourism became much easier. During the Civil War, the border crossing was closed on one side 1990 on the initiative of the Government of Sierra Leone. The move was justified on the grounds that the President of Liberia Charles Taylor would provide the operating against the government of Sierra Leone RUF rebels on this road with supplies. As a result, the transit passengers had to choose a wide detour to the north or the sea to cross the border legally. The border crossing between Jendema in Sierra Leone and Bo Waterside, was re- opened in June 2007, after 17 years of blockade as a sign of reconciliation between the two countries.

Previously, a new border checkpoint in the project funded by the UNMIL " Quick Impact Project" was set up and trained the Liberian border police and customs officials.

There is a small processing plant with cold storage of fisheries products on site. The fishing in the Mano River carried out by a fishing cooperative.
