History

The classic boathouse

The classic boat house stands on the shore and is built over the water. It serves as a "garage" for ships. A boathouse may be a simple wooden shed, but also very complex and artfully constructed as part of a villa or an entire estate. If the boat house is on a slope, it is often so integrated into the terrain that the roof can be used as a terrace towards the lake. Often connected to the boat house, a boat dock or a jetty.

So the ships are protected from wave action, they are lifted by a crane mounted on the roof beams from the water and then hang in the slings or lying on a special stand standing under the floating roof. For the water side the boat house is open or closed with a wing or roller door.

On inland waters also store fishing boats, taxi and passenger boats in such boathouses. The public passenger ship parked their ships often overnight in boat sheds, but pull up without them.

Boathouses of sports clubs

Boathouse is also called warehouses or parts of a clubhouse of rowing clubs, canoe sports clubs, motor boat clubs, other sports clubs but also by commercial boat owners and water sports schools. The halls are used for the storage of rowing boats, dinghies, kayaks, surfboards, inflatable dinghies, or be used in winter as a roofed winter storage. Such a boat house is often a dry mooring affiliated outdoors. Many buildings are constructed of wood. Depending on the size of the boathouse smaller boats such as canoes, rowboats and other small vehicles are accommodated therein, including accessories such as paddles, belts and skulls. Accessories such as life jackets or special clothing, may also be housed separately, as well as other areas such as cabins for changing rooms, lockers and washing facilities may be located at the boat house or separately. Materials and tools for the repair of boats are also often stored in the boathouse. Responsible for the boathouse with the inventory is usually the boat waiting. A journey log gives you an overview.

Boathouses part of the infrastructure of the respective water sports clubs, as the sports equipment outdoors can not be stored. Some sports boats on a mooring only be kept in winter in the boathouse. They also serve the clubs for repair and maintenance of this sporting and water hikes often as a shelter.

In order to operate in bad weather sports, there are often other sports equipment, equipment for strength training or so-called " boat boxes " for accurate motion analysis.

When used by clubs boathouses can also be the headquarters of the association. Boathouses older construction often include a club house, which ( from concession for legal reasons ) was often only available to club members. As this operational concept today rarely credited, there are also (former) boat houses where public restaurants are housed exclusively or partially today.

The boathouse as a resort

Boat houses and boat sheds were in addition to the classic dachas popular recreation and retreats in the former GDR. Due to a much more liberal attitude of the authorities than in the present Federal Republic of numerous boat house gatherings at the lakes and waterways in particular Mecklenburg emerged in the 60s and 70s. These shape today much the appearance of the Mecklenburg lakes areas and convey the romance of the holiday by the sea and in the nature. Basically, here are the boathouses, as boat garage, some with a lounge area and often supplied with electricity only, to distinguish it from the boat houses with a separate living floor and a means to stay and linger for several days. After all, according to current building regulations is purely stock protection, without the possibility to use change for the boathouses, the most building codes are in outer space. With today's use of the boathouses is it therefore depends on whether only had the function of a boat garage or whether you have previously been used as accommodation and resort. The latter are now partially restored and expanded by today's standards and are offered as a holiday home and used. The special appeal of this boat houses is located on the waterfront, usually with a motor, rowing boat or canoe and the typical thatched roof. This makes them very popular with boaters, anglers and bird and nature lovers.
