Bob Brady

Robert A. "Bob" Brady ( born April 7, 1945 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) is an American politician of the Democratic Party. Since 1998 he is member of the U.S. House of Representatives and represents there at the time the first congressional district of the state of Pennsylvania.

Career

Brady worked after high school graduation as a carpenter and was ahead of its time deputies, among others active as a union official. Since 1986 he has been a local leader of the Democratic Party in Philadelphia. In 1998, his predecessor in Congress, Tom Foglietta, was appointed U.S. Ambassador to Italy and retired after 17 years in the House of Representatives from. Brady had no intra-party opposition candidate in the primaries and then won in the by-election to Congress the traditionally democratic dominated constituency without much effort.

In 2007, Brady tried to be prepared for the election as mayor of Philadelphia as a candidate. In the primaries, but he lost to Michael Nutter, who was then in the elections successful. As a Member Brady still spends much of his time with the steering of the Democratic Party in Philadelphia and mediates in conflicts between unions and companies. Although he can produce no academic degree, he is a lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania.

He is currently the only local chairman of the Democratic Party, which holds a parliamentary seat in Congress.
