Thomas M. Foglietta

Thomas Michael Foglietta ( born December 3, 1928 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, † 13 November 2004 ) was an American politician and diplomat. Between 1981 and 1997 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1997 to 2001 he was United States Ambassador to Italy.

Career

Thomas Foglietta visited until 1945, the South Catholic High School and thereafter until 1949, the St. Joseph's College in Philadelphia. After a subsequent law degree in 1952 and its recent approval as a lawyer, he began to work in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career. Between 1955 and 1975 he was a town councilor in Philadelphia. In 1976 he worked for the regional Federal Labour Office.

In the congressional elections of 1980 Foglietta as an independent candidate in the first election District of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC was chosen, where he became the successor of Michael Myers on January 3, 1981. After seven re- election as a candidate of the Democratic Party, he could remain until his resignation on 11 November 1997 in Congress.

Between 1997 and 2001, was Thomas Foglietta American ambassador in Rome. He then practiced as a lawyer. He died on November 13, 2004 in Philadelphia.
