Bobby Collins (footballer)

Robert Young " Bobby" Collins ( born February 16, 1931 in Govanhill, Scotland, † January 13, 2014 ) was a Scottish football player and coach.

Life and career

With a height of only 160 cm Collins was considered -tackling midfielder and lively. In 1948 he came to Celtic Glasgow and played here ten years. With the " Bhoys " he won this time, several national titles: 1951 the Scottish Cup and the Scottish League Cup, 1954, the league and cup double in 1957 and again the Scottish League Cup. In 1958 he moved to England to Everton. Four years later he came to Leeds United. In Leeds he became captain and 1965 named the best player in the league. He remained at Leeds until a serious knee injury in the Erstrundenbegegnung against AC Torino at the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup 1965/66. In 1966 he signed a contract with FC Bury. Two years later he returned to his native Scotland and even played one year at Greenock Morton. Between 1957 and 1959 he came to 31 missions in the Scottish national football team ( where he scored 10 goals) and was in the squad for the FIFA World Cup 1958 in Sweden. He later became a coach at Huddersfield Town, Hull City and Barnsley FC. In the 1970s and then again in the years 1990 Collins coached youth teams at Leeds United.
