Greenock Morton F.C.

Greenock Morton ( officially: Greenock Morton Football and Athletic Club ) is a Scottish football club based in Greenock. The club plays in the First Division, the second highest in the Scottish football league.

Club history

The club was founded in 1874 under the name Morton Football Club, making it one of the oldest club in the Scottish professional football. As early as 1886 Greenock Morton was converted into a Limited Company. The club was a founding member in 1893 of the Second Division. 1900 succeeded in rising to the First Division. The highlight of the club history marked winning the Scottish Cup in 1922. In the final, the highly favored Rangers from Glasgow were defeated.

Length of the club was struggling with financial difficulties, which resulted in the fact that it found itself in the 4th league. Only in 2007 could ascend to the 2nd league again.
