Bocicoiu Mare
Bocicoiu Mare [ botʃikoiu mare ] ( German wholesale Botschko, Hungarian Nagybocskó, Ukrainian Великий Бичків / Welykyj Bychkiv ) is a municipality in Romania, located in Maramureş County. It consists of four villages, the village Bocicoiu Mare in the strict sense during 2002 was 804 inhabitants.
Originally two cities
The settlement was originally formed in two parts, Hungarian Kisbocskó and Németbocskó. After the split of the former Hungarian Kingdom was divided into two settlements left and right of the river Tisza. The river Tisza today forms the border between Romania and Ukraine. The Ukrainian part is, both within and beyond the border Welykyj Bychkiv, created from Kis and Nagybocskó, and the Romanian part Bocicoiu Mare, the former Németbocskó.
Name declaration
The Romanian word Mare Mare Bocicoiu and the Hungarian word Nagy Nagy Bocsko are the German word United in their respective national languages. Bocska is the name of the landowner. The designation was Romanianized later and turned into Bocicoiou.
Religion
75 % of the population are Orthodox, 15 % Catholic ( 8% Byzantine rite, 7% Latin rite ) and 4 % Jehovah's Witnesses. The other religions each make up less than 1 %.
