Bolko IV of Opole

Bolko IV (also Boleslaw IV of Opole, Boleslaw IV of Opole, † May 6, 1437 Polish Bolko IV Opolski; Czech Boleslav IV Opolský; ; * 1363/67 ) was Duke of Opole from 1382 to 1437, and Duke of Opole duchies Falkenberg and Strehlitz.

Family and origin

Bolko came from the Opole Silesian branch of the Piast dynasty. He was the second son of the Duke Bolko III. and Anna, whose origin is not known.

Life

After the death of the eponymous father Bolko III. 1382 were Bolko IV and his younger brothers Heinrich ( † 1394) and Bernhard ( † 1455 ), first under the tutelage of her uncle Władysław II of Opole and her eldest brother Johann I. Since the inheritance of her grandmother Elizabeth of Schweidnitz until the death of father had not been paid yet, the claim went in 1382 to Bolko and his brothers. To get to the inheritance, erwirkten Bolko and his brothers in 1389 by the Czech King Wenceslas IV, who was the rightful heir to the Duchy of Schweidnitz, a corresponding promissory note. Bolko and his brother Bernard were detained in Opole by the Polish army.
