Bollingen

Bollingen on Lake Zurich, left the Church of St. Pancras

The village Bollingen located on the banks of the Upper Lake and is part of the political municipality of Rapperswil -Jona.

Geography

The predominantly rural village in the area of the former district of Jona is situated on the northern Upper lakeshore between Schmerikon and Joner district of St. Dionysius. The district lies to the east of Upper Bollingen Bollingen. In addition to some farms there are in Bollingen also a dining restaurant. The following the lake shore for pedestrians and cyclists ( Coastal ) from Rapperswil to Schmerikon performs Bollingen.

Public transportation

Bollingen lies on the railway line Rapperswil- Uznach, 2004, however, the station was shut down. The former station is located between the village and the monastery Bollingen Wurmsbach because in Bollingen earlier sandstone was extracted and the quarry outside the village center is located.

On public transport Bollingen is therefore only on school days served by the BollingerBus

Industry

In the area of Bollingen are former sand quarries from which stones were mined, inter alia, for the National Museum in Zurich. Nearly 1000 years of mining there Bollinger sandstone. Today, the former quarries are hardly recognizable because they are partially overgrown with shrubs and trees.

Attractions

Church of St. Pancras

On a hill above the village, the church of St. Pancras, whose foundation probably dates back to the 12th century rises. The present church dates from the 16th century in the nucleus, but was completely Baroque style in the 18th century. On the nave hall church with a distinctive polygonal Käsbissenturm was added in 1764. The redesign of the interior had 1776/1777 a furnish of a ceiling with beautiful stucco work in the Rococo style by Martin Zobel result. The stucco cartridges frame a late Baroque ceiling frescoes by Felix Christoph Cajetan Fuchs. The paintings show saints, as well as in the central ceiling painting an allegory of the mystical veneration of the Sacred Heart. The Baroque high altar with a painting of the Lamentation of Christ by Johann Michael Hunger was built around 1690 and was originally located in Rapperswil. The expressive chancel arch crucifix dates from 1570. Recent date are the stained glass windows in the choir by August Wanner and the loft with organ from the 1950s.

Chapel of St. Meinrad upper Bollingen

The early Gothic chapel from the 13th century is situated on a promontory not far from Schmerikon and is dedicated to Saint Meinrad. It was once owned by the monastery Ruti, but went in 1260 in the possession of the monastery Wurmsbach over. The chapel has a roof skylights and a polygonal chancel.

Intermediate and upper Bollingen Bollingen is a lush lakeside shrine recent.

Home of C. G. Jung

The eminent psychologist Carl Gustav Jung lived in a village outside the core hidden lakeshore historic villa with boat house, which was known for its own naming of boys as " tower ".

Also the home of Marie -Louise von Franz is obtained on a hill above the village, a close confidant guys.
