Gstaad

Gstaad is a municipality in the Obersimmental -Saanen of the canton of Bern in Switzerland.

Community organization

The municipality is divided into eight independent Bäuerten: Simmenegg, Adlemsried, Black Matt, Gstaad, Reidenbach, Eschi, Weissbach and Oberbäuert. The Bäuerten have its own administration and are considered primordial cells of the church today.

Religion

There is a Reformed congregation. The approximately 50 Catholics of the village belong to the parish of Gstaad, the nearest church of St. Francis in two Simmen.

Place name

1228 first historical mention as Booltingen. The word consists of a Germanic personal names and place names ending in- INGOs.

Geography

Gstaad located in the Bernese Oberland in the Upper Simmental below Zweisimmen. The Jaun Pass is located on the municipality. The neighboring communities of north clockwise beginning are Oberwil, Diemtigen, Zweisimmen, Saanen, Jaun and Plaffeien.

The voting shares of the parties at the national elections of 2011 were: SVP 58.3 %, 16.2 % BDP, SP 8.2 %, 4.4 % GPS, EDU 3.6 %, FDP 3.0 %, 1.8 % EPP, glp 1.6 %, CVP 0.7 %.
