Station Two Simmen

Two Simmen is a municipality in the Obersimmental -Saanen is located in the canton of Bern and the Bernese Oberland.

Geography

By the municipality flow the Big Simme and the Small Simme, hence the name. The region around Zweisimmen im Simmental is surrounded by mountains: protrude in the north of the steep jagged Kalkriffen the stock horn Gantrisch Gastlosen chain, on the south by the glaciated main ridge of the Bernese Alps, from the most prominent figures Wildstrubel, Wildhorn and Diablerets massif.

The municipality consists of the villages Zweisimmen, Blankenburg, Mannried Grubenwald and the scattered settlements Oeschseite and rich stone. In Blankenburg with its castle, the district administration is housed.

History

To the 850 settlements Two Simmen, Grubenwald and Betelried emerged. The Blankenburg castle is first mentioned in 1325.

The first school was established in 1608. Shortly after that 1816-1821 was the Simmentalstrasse. In 1862, devastated a village fire Zweisimmen, burned half of the houses. After the telegraph office in 1868, 1900 holds the electric light collection. From 1902 to 1905 was the construction of the railway connections to Montreux. In the years 1932-1936 the Simmentalstrasse was paved and expanded. The winter of 1934 began in Zweisimmen of ski tourism and as of 1936 decreed the skiers about a particular vehicle for winter sports enthusiasts who called the Funi (short funicular ) Sled funicular. As with a funicular railway carriage drove two opposite directions up and down, but not on tracks but on the snow. After the construction of the Zweisimmen cattle mountain in 1957 was that, until the 1970s, the longest of its kind in Europe. It was revamped in 1987.

Policy

The voting shares of the parties at the national elections of 2011 were: SVP 47.7 %, 18.0 % BDP, SP 10.3 %, FDP 7.6 %, 4.7 % glp, GPS, 4.3%, 3.3 % EDU, EPP 1.5 %, CVP 0.6 %.

Economy

The most important economic factor is tourism. More economic pillars of the community are service, trade and agriculture.

Tourism

The area is ideal for hiking, mountaineering for companies as well as for winter sports. In winter, 220 km of slopes with 57 lifts are offered in the summer of 300 km walking.

Health service

Two apartement also has a public hospital with 24 -hour emergency care. It belongs to the network of hospitals Klink STS.

Traffic

The municipality is the terminus of standard gauge railway line from the BLS Spiez. In the meter-gauge railway lines Zweisimmen the Montreux-Bernese Oberland Railway ( MOB) start to Lenk and to Montreux on Lake Geneva.

The Simmental is well developed for individual through the Simmental. Road connections via the Jaun Pass after the Fribourg region, the Col des Mosses and Col du Pillon in the Canton of Valais since the beginning of colonization were considered important transitions.

Attractions

The Reformed Church of St. Mary was built in the mid 15th century. The building is externally and internally painted with late Gothic frescoes that have relations with the Swabian Painting ( Striegel - workshop) and were created in the years 1470-1500. The west facade is adorned with Christopher, with the Annunciation to Mary and with George fighting the dragon. Inside, in the nave walls scenes from Marie legend and the life of Jesus. The choir is painted with a row of apostle and an angel with censer.

Environment

The environment in Zweisimmen is largely intact ( very low particulate air pollution and ozone ). The drinking water comes mostly from sources. Portions of the township Zweisimmen include the nature reserve at Spillgerten.
