Bomlitz–Walsrode railway

The railway line Bomlitz Walsrode is a branch line of the Heidebahn Hannover -Hamburg in Lower Saxony and is currently (2011) of the Osthannoverschen Railways ( OHE ) operated.

Route

The railway consists of two sections of different origin and route of:

  • Bomlitz Railway Triangle Cordingen (built and electrified in 1915 as industrial railway Wolff & Co.)
  • Cordingen Bird Park Walsrode ( built in 1890 as a state railway line between Hanover and Visselhoevede )

Operationally is closely related with the web today Walsrode leg of the Verden - Walsrode railway ( VWE ):

  • Walsrode Vorwalsrode - Hollige - Altenboitzen (chain of Verden - Walsrode railway). The entire route Bomlitz - Altenboitzen also bears the name Jordan Bomlitz train, as it leads from the valley of the Jordan creek into Bomlitztal.

The remarkable thing about the route of the industrial railway section are the distinct slopes that forced the moving terrain in the valleys of Bomlitz and Warnau. The breakpoint Kiebitzort and Bomlitz station could not be created horizontally.

The former state railway section, however, is much more complex than mainline been traced out. You should of Hannover Walsrode by Geestemünde (today Bremerhaven ) lead.

History

Section Bomlitz - Cordingen

A first precursor had the factory internal stretch in a field railway network from Wolff & Co., which existed 1875-1945. The company Wolff & Co. focused mainly black powder and smokeless powder ago. The standard gauge industrial railway of Cordingen after Bomlitz was opened on 15 May 1915 to Kiebitzort and completed in 1916. First, a steam engine was used, but still in 1915 the railway was electrified and operated at 600 volts DC. This makes it the first electric railway in what is now Lower Saxony. These courses were three, four from 1943, electric locomotives available. Since the thirties, but also diesel locomotives were used in the growing traffic. For the through passenger Bomlitz Walsrode a used benzene railcars in 1940 procured.

From 1938 chain on a track triangle at the breakpoint Benefeld from a compound that reached beyond the factory path of the munitions factory Eibia the things Honer Station, on the Walsrode - Soltau. About this stretches a powerful one-way traffic was settled from 1939. 1944, the company railways had a length of 31.6 km.

After 1945, the industrial railways have been significantly dismantled. Instead of explosives cellulose products were in the Bomlitz plants now mainly produced. From 1977, the electrical equipment has been limited to the plant site, in 1979 completely set. The upper line is degraded since then. Only in Bomlitz station stands next to another museum vehicles under erstwhile contact wire the loco 1 ( in service 1916-1976 ).

Until 31 May 1991, the industrial railway of Wolff Walsrode AG again - limited public - passenger transport, which had been extended from 1942 to Walsrode. In addition to the railcars were also own cars. Most recently used leased passenger coaches of the German Federal Railroad ( DB). Since these were no longer available as of 1991, the travel was quite moved on buses. The roadmap was previously virtually shrunk down to the school transport.

The freight is the factories in the Industrial Park Walsrode, which are mainly resulted from the Wolff Walsrode AG. Currently are transported annually by 60,000 tons by rail.

Section Cordingen Walsrode

The section between Walsrode and Cordingen was opened on 25 August 1890 as part of the Hanover- Visselhoevede and would later Rotenburg ( Wümme) and Bremervörde reach the North Sea port Geestemünde. The track was implemented in 1906 to Bremervörde, but never got beyond a regional importance and is now mined from Cordingen and Rotenburg. In contrast, south of Walsrode, the section has maintained its importance as part of the heath railway, which had been until Buchholz completed by October 1, 1901 albeit beside web-like in the North Heath south of Hamburg. The section Cordingen Walsrode was one of the structurally more complex parts of the route opened in 1890.

On 1 January 1997, the Wolff AG also acquired the stretch Cordingen Walsrode of the German Federal Railroad. The company Probis, a subsidiary of Dow Wolff Cellulosics, took over the infrastructure in 2002. The management is March 1, 2002, the Osthannoverschen Railways ( OHE ).
