Bonawentura Niemojowski

Bonawentura Niemojowski ( born September 4, 1787 Slupin in Krakow, † June 15, 1835 in Paris) was a Polish liberal politician. He was in the final phase of the November Uprising of 1830/31 President of the Polish National Government.

Life

He received his schooling in Warsaw. Then he studied in Berlin and Erlangen State and Law. In Erlangen, he became in 1805 a member of the Corps Marchia. Then he undertook for the purpose of training traveling through Germany, France and England. He then worked as a lawyer and author.

In 1820 he was elected to the Sejm of the Congress Poland. Together with his brother Wincenty Niemojowski he organized a liberal opposition movement. This turned especially against the violation of the Constitution of 1815 by the Russian government. As both brothers were elected to the region Kalisz, called her political group Kaliszanie.

During the November Uprising Niemojowski held several important positions. He was justice and interior ministers. The latter office he gave up when it did not succeed to the abolition of serfdom enforce. He was also vice president and president of the national government. The latter he was after deposition and capture of Jan Krukowiecki since 8 September 1831st He was one of those forces who opposed despite the looming defeat and occupation of Warsaw capitulation. After the suppression of the uprising, he fled to Paris. There he was active as president an émigré organization.
