In Bondo

Bondo ( German outdated Bundth, Romansh Buond? / I ) was a municipality in the district Bregaglia ( Bergell ) in the district of Maloja in the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland.

On 1 January 2010, the municipalities of the Bergell merged (ie Bondo, Castasegna, Soglio, Stampa and Vicosoprano ) to the new community Bregaglia.

Blazon

The Zinnentor represents the Müraia or Porta, the ruins of a large dam to ensure the Tales. The Capricorn is the heraldic animal of the church covenant, the fir trees stand for the forest resources of the community.

Geography

Bondo is a scattered village in the lower part of the Bergells at the entrance to Val Bondasca. The municipality also included Promontogno and Castelmur. Of the total area of over 28 square kilometers are 1671 ha of unproductive area (mostly mountains), 1061 hectares of forest and woodland, only 70 ha of agricultural land and 17 ha settlement area.

Languages

Traditionally, one speaks in Bondo a Lombard dialect, the Bargaiot. In 1900 gave 92.76 % and 95.65 % in 1970 Italian as their mother language. Only since 1980 are available in Bondo a significant German speaking minority. The development of recent decades shows the following table.

Religions and denominations

1552 changed the residents to Protestant doctrine.

Origin and nationality

From the end of 2005 203 inhabitants were 191 ( = 94%) Swiss nationals.

Bondo heard since 1 January 2010 the municipality Bregaglia. Community president is Anna Giacometti.
