Stampa

Stampa was a municipality in the district of Maloja Bergell in the district of the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland.

On 1 January 2010, the municipalities of the Bergell merged (ie Bondo, Castasegna, Soglio, Stampa and Vicosoprano ) to the new community Bregaglia.

Coat of arms

Description: silver ( white ) on a black shield battlements walk a flight ready, red reinforced eagle. The coat of arms was designed based on motifs of the family crest of Stampa: The castle coat of arms was replaced by the battlements section and the eagle changed color. The colors depend on the specification of the coat of arms of the house of God covenant.

Geography

The municipality consisted of two parts. The smaller, western part is called Stampa and is located in Bergell. The larger the district of Maloja lies on both sides of the Maloja Pass; Bergell and the Engadine.

To the municipality of Stampa part included the village of Stampa and the west ( from east to west ) the hamlet Coltura ( 999 m), Muntac / Montaccio ( 1043 m), Caccior ( 933 m) and on the western boundary of the municipality at the Palazzo Castelmur. East of the village lies the village of Borgonovo ( 1043 m).

The municipal portion Maloja included in Bergell the hamlet Cavril ( 1551 m) on the stream Orlegna and the nearly uninhabited Val Maroz in which Maira springs. Southeast of the Maloja Pass lies the hamlet of Order (1800 m). In the Engadine are Cad'Maté (1815 m) and the village of Maloja (1809 m). On a hill north of the village of Weiler Pila (1839 m)

On Lake Sils ( Romansh Lej da Segl ) is the hamlet Creista (1802 m) and the district Cadlägh (1829 m). On the southern shores of Lake Sils is Isola (1812 m). The majority of the territory is mountains. This includes the Val Forn with the lake Lägh because Cavloc ( Cavlocciosee, 1907 m) and its side valleys. The southern former municipality boundaries also border to Italy. Highest points of the dividing mountain ranges are the Cima di Vazzeda ( 3301 m), the Monte del Forno ( 3214 m) and Piz Fora ( 3363 m). Also on the previous municipal area, there are some heights that reach 3,000 m, such as the Piz Fedoz with 3190 m.

From all over the former municipality of almost 95 km ² are 6261 ha ( = 66.1 %) Mountains and 1875 ha ( = 19 %) of woods and forests covered. 1095 ha of the 1348 ha of arable land are mountain pastures. Only 80 ha settlement area.

Languages

The majority of inhabitants speak a dialect of Lombard. Due to the location - a part of the community lies in the Engadine, a part in Bergell - there are German and Romansh-speaking minorities. The development of recent decades shows the following table:

Religions and denominations

The population of Stampa has already appeared in 1533 converted to the Protestant faith.

Origin and nationality

From the end of 2005 570 inhabitants were 503 ( = 88 % ) Swiss nationals.

History

On the floor of the church today Stampa settlement remains have been found from the La Tene and Roman times. In the 12th century the valley was settled. The name first appears in the form Stampa Stamppa on in the year 1354.

Tourism

In the Stampa Ciäsa Granda is from the year 1581, in the Valley Museum is housed. It also shows works by the artist Giacometti family and the painter Varlin. The graves of Giacometti's located in the district Borgonovo, whose church was provided with glass windows by Augusto Giacometti. A hike connects the districts and continues on the sun terrace of Soglio.
