Varlin

Willy Guggenheim ( born March 16, 1900 in Zurich, † 30 October 1977 in Bondo GR ), also known Varlin, was a Swiss painter. Varlin was close friends with Hugo Loetscher and Friedrich Dürrenmatt, he also painted.

Life

Willy Guggenheim grew up in an assimilated Jewish family. When he was 12 years old, his father died two months before his older sister. He moved to St. Gallen, where he attended the district school and vocational school and made a half -year apprenticeship in the Lithografenanstalt Seitz. Zborowski rented him a studio in artist round pavilion La Ruche, where Alexander Archipenko, Chaim Soutine, Marc Chagall and Fernand Léger had worked. Varlin spent a year in Cros -de- Cagnes in the south of France. His exhibition at the gallery Sloden, Faubourg St- Honoré, was a resounding success. Zborowski died in 1932. 1935 Varlin traveled with his mother and sister back to Switzerland, lived 35 years in a Wollishofer three-room apartment, which also served as his two years as a studio.
