Bondoukou

Region

Bondoukou is the capital of the Ivorian Zanzan region, near the border with Ghana. Bondoukou lies to the east of the département de Bondoukou and is also its capital. The city is known for its numerous mosques, which is why it is called La ville aux mille mosquées ( city of a thousand mosques ).

History

Originally, the city was the trade center of the Diula until it was conquered in the early 17th century by abransprachigen groups of the Akan. She soon became a hub of the Gyaaman Empire. For a short time the city was in the hands of Samory Touré, until it was incorporated in 1897 in French West Africa.

The traders of Diula brought the city not only as a trade center between the gold and kolanussproduzierenden East and the trade centers in the West to economic significance, but built Bondoukou also an important Islamic Mission Base. In both areas Bondoukou is of great importance even today.

In addition to several primary schools, two secondary schools are government ( Lycée Collège modern and modern ) and five private secondary schools ( Collège Moderne Nanan Adou Koffi, Collège Moderne Honoré de Balzac, Groupe Scolaire les Professionnel, Collège Moderne Amani N'Guessan Michel and Collège Moderne Ouattara Mahama ) in Bondoukou.
