Bone morphogenetic protein 1

Bone morphogenetic protein 1 ( BMP1 ) is a protein, its homologs can be found in all multicellular animals. In humans, BMP1 one hand functions as a growth factor that can induce the differentiation of mesenchymal cells into osteoblasts, on the other hand has BMP1 enzymatic activity: the peptidase to cleave the precursor of the collagens I, II and III and of apolipoprotein A1. It is therefore important for the formation of cartilage and the reverse cholesterol transport. BMP1 is the only bone morphogenetic protein, which does not belong to the TGF -beta superfamily of cytokines. BMP1 is one of the metalloproteases.

BMP1 - inhibitors have the potential to be used in scar creams.
