Bonpland (crater)

59.25

Bonpland is an impact crater on the lunar front side in the plane of the Mare Cognitum, immediately adjacent to the southern wall of the crater Fra Mauro and the east partially covered by Parry.

The crater is heavily eroded and in the southern part of the wall has almost disappeared. The interior runs through the grooves of the system Rimae Parry.

The crater was founded in 1935, officially named by the IAU after the French botanist Aimé Bonpland, friend and companion of Alexander von Humboldt.
