Book of the Later Han

The Hou Hanshu (Chinese后 汉书/后 汉书, Pinyin Hou Hanshu ) or Book of Later Han is one of the recognized sources of Chinese history. It was compiled by Fan Ye in the 5th century on the basis of numerous past documents and treated in 90 chapters the history of the Later Han Dynasty, 25-220 AD

The work is the third of the 24 dynastic histories and includes 120 rolls / volumes (卷, juǎn ). It is in this canon according to the records of the Grand Historian and the Book of Han in third place, ahead of the Chronicles of the Three Kingdoms. Fan Ye refers to earlier historians, including Sima Qian and Ban Gu. The works of many other historians, he even takes under its original title, such as the records of the Han from the Eastern stay of several contemporary writers of the second century or the records of the Later Han Yuan Hong from the 4th century who have gone partially lost. The last 30 volumes of the Hou Hanshu are taken from the 3rd century to the continuation of the Book of Han by Sima Biao; this was done under the leadership of Liu Zhao, of the Hou Hanshu finished in the 6th century.

For the cultural and socio-environmental reports from Central Asia, the records of the Western Regions of Ban Yong ( 127) were largely contained in Volume 88 of the Hou Hanshu. However, it was corrected by Fan Ye, who stated this at the end of the chapter, to have revised some data from the Western regions.
