The University Victor Segalen Bordeaux II (French Université Victor Segalen de Bordeaux II) is one of four universities in the city of Bordeaux in the Gironde department in France. It was founded in 1971 and its campus is located both in Bordeaux and in Talence. 2008, about 15,000 students are enrolled. The offer of the university covers the areas of study medicine, humanities, sports and oenology. It is named after the French writer, naval surgeon, ethnologists and archaeologists Victor Segalen.

Locations

The University is spread over three locations:

  • Campus la Victoire: In the city center of Bordeaux, the Place de la Victoire, in the buildings of the old Pharmaceutical Faculty, where the training takes place in Human Sciences.
  • Campus Carreire: Located on the grounds of the CHU de Bordeaux, for medical education.
  • Campus Talence - Pessac: Located on the campus of the three other universities. Where the training takes place in oenology and sports science.

The university comprises a school, three institutes and ten disciplines:

  • A Department of Humanities,
  • A Department of Science and Modeling (S & M)
  • A Department of Life Sciences
  • A Department of Sport Science and Physical Education

Research

The University has 32 laboratories, which are associated with the French national research organizations, such as the Institut national de la santé et de la recherche médicale (INSERM ), the Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS ), the Institut National de la research in Agronomy (INRA ), and the Institut de recherche pour le développement (IRD ). These 32 facilities are recognized by the Ministry of National Education, Research and Technology ( Ministère de l'Education Nationale, de la Recherche et de la technology).

Furthermore, new researchers are trained at two doctoral seminars:
