Borislav Mikhailov ( Borislav Mikhailov also written, Bulgarian Борислав Михайлов, English transcription Borislav Mikhailov, . Born February 12, 1963 in Sofia ) is a former Bulgarian football player. He was goalkeeper, took part in two World Championships and was until 2011 most-capped player in Bulgaria.

Playing career

Mikhailov was born in Sofia and started with his hometown club Levski Sofia in 1981 his professional career. He played until the age of 27 years for his hometown club. With Levski he was three times Bulgarian champions and cup winners. In 1983 he made his debut in the Bulgarian national team, with whom he was also represented at the World Cup 1986.

In 1989 he moved to Portugal to Belenenses Lisbon. From 1991, he played for FC Mulhouse in France, in 1994, he returned to his homeland and joined Botev Plovdiv on. In the same year Bulgaria reached surprising fourth place, with Mihailov was in all seven games in goal during the World Cup in the USA.

After only one year at Botev, he moved to England in 1995 to the then second-class Reading FC, but the club managed the targeted promotion to the Premier League not the Star Mikhailov. After two years left of Reading and let his career at Slawia Sofia and FC Zurich bar.

After he had not played since 1996 for his national team, he played on 5 June 1998 still one match, against Algeria in the Bulgaria Mihajlova hometown Sofia won 2-0. He also starred at the World Championships in the same year in the Bulgarian squad, but had no use.

More career

After the end of his active career, he started a career as a football official. From 2001 to 2005 he was vice-president of the Bulgarian Football Union, today he is the successor of Ivan Slawkow its president.

In March 2011, Mihailov was elected in the Executive Committee of UEFA.

Others

Mikhailov is married to his second wife, the former Bulgarian rhythm gymnast Maria Petrova since 1998.

His son Nikolai Mikhailov (* 1988) is also football player and current Bulgarian goalkeeper.

Unusually, he was already wearing a Bulgarian goalkeeper between the posts a toupee in his playing days.
