Reading F.C.

Reading FC ( officially: Reading Football Club ), also known as The Royals ( " The Royal " ), is an English football club based in Reading. Reading FC was founded in 1871 and played from 2006 to 2008 in the Premier League. Since 1998, the home games of Reading FC are in the 24 161 -seater Madejski Stadium discharged.

History of the Association

After 1871 the club was known colloquially as The Biscuitmen. This term has its origin from the settlement of Huntley & Palmers Keksfabrikanten in Reading. In the 1970s the company moved production and thus the nickname changed to the Royals, because the club in the county of Royal Berkshire is a resident.

Reading FC in 1920 was admitted to the Third Division, where he spent most of the time the club existence. From time to time the club was promoted to the Second Division. In the following season, 2007/ 08 Reading was only on the 18th place in the table and thus missed the league because of the poorer goal difference by three goals against Fulham FC.

On April 17, 2012 the club prematurely succeeded the second promotion to the Premier League. After 44 days of play FC Reading was 88 points in first place and had eight points ahead of third-place finisher. Thus, the club returned after four years of second-class back in the top flight.

The best season to Reading FC in the FA Cup was in 1926/27, when the club lost in the semifinals to eventual Cup winners Cardiff City. This success was also reflected in the interest of spectators: On February 19, 1927, in the cup game against FC Brentford (1-0 ) 33 042 spectators in the former Elm Park; a value which should never be reached again. In the League Cup, the club never got beyond the quarter -finals. This reached the Reading FC in the season 1995/96 and 1997 /98.

Reading FC is the English record holder of games won at the beginning of the season. In the 1985/86 season, the first 13 games were won. 1979 conceded Goalkeeper Steve D' Ath 1103 minutes no goals. This was until 2009 the English record ( replaced by Edwin van der Sar at Manchester United).
