Wayne Michael Bridge ( * August 5, 1980 in Southampton ) is an English footballer.

Career

Clubs

The left-back began his career in 1997 with the English club Southampton FC and moving in 2003 for the equivalent of 9.8 million euros to league rivals Chelsea, with whom he 2004/ 05 won the English championship. Due to a double ankle fracture and the consequent lack of match practice, he joined in January 2006 on loan to Premier League rivals Fulham, before he returned in May of the same year again to Chelsea. In January 2009, Bridge moved to Manchester City for a fee of ten million pounds initially (without consideration of other performance-related payments). In January 2011, Bridge on loan until the end of the 2010/11 season at West Ham United and in January 2012 at the Sunderland AFC. For the 2012/13 season Bridge was awarded to Brighton & Hove Albion in the second-class Football League Championship.

For the 2013/14 season moved Bridge to Reading FC.

National

During his time at Southampton Bridge debuted in February 2002 in the England national team in a match against the Netherlands, but could not prevail permanently to the position of left-back Ashley Cole against its competitors. In February 2010, Bridge said the resignation of the national team. He said his position in the national team was " untenable and potentially divisive ".
