Shaka Hislop

Neil Shaka Hislop ( born February 22, 1969 in Hackney, London ) is a former football player born in England with ancestors from Trinidad and Tobago. Hislop plays last at FC Dallas in Major League Soccer and was for many years goalkeeper of the national team of his native country.

Club career

Hislop began his career at the university team of Howard University in Washington, DC., 1992, he was at FC Reading his first professional contract. With Reading, he played in the third English league and entered 1994 as master to the second division on. Hislop was at Reading a crowd favorite and missed the promotion to the Premier League in the following season, only just, as you Bolton Wanderers lost the play-off final with 3:4.

Hislop thereupon moved for the transfer fee of 1,575,000 pounds to Newcastle United. After he was first choice goalkeeper at St James' Park, he soon found himself in a four-way battle with Pavel Srníček, Shay Given and Steve Harper to the goalkeeper items. To continue to get regular playing time, he moved in 1998 free transfer to West Ham United.

Also at West Ham United, he was first -choice goalkeeper and reached with the club in 1999 to fifth place in the Premier League and qualified for the Intertoto Cup, you win the following season, and was thus able to qualify for the UEFA Cup. However, due to the additional load caused by international appearances, the club played against relegation and manager Harry Redknapp was released in May 2001. Hislop was then his place no longer hold and came in the 2001/2002 season only twelve to inserts whereupon it free transfer to the second division FC Portsmouth changed. In mid-2007 he announced his retirement from professional sport.

National

Hislop had a use in the English Under-21 national team, but opted for Trinidad and Tobago. In June 1998, he was in a 2-0 win over Jamaica his debut in the national team.

With the Soca Warriors, he qualified for the first time in the history of the country for a football World Cup, but was with the two decisive play-off games against Bahrain only replacement of Kelvin Jack. Hislop was also the final squad of Trinidad and Tobago at the 2006 World Cup., Where the only place on the bench was actually intended for him. In total, he completed 26 internationals.
