Lawrie Sanchez

Lawrence Philip " Lawrie " Sanchez ( born October 22, 1959 in London ) is a former Northern Irish football player and current coach of the English fourth division FC Barnet. In the final of the FA Cup 1987/88 he scored for FC Wimbledon the only goal to make it 1-0 against Liverpool.

Playing career

Reading FC (1978-1984)

Lawrie Sanchez began in the season 1977/78 his career with the English fourth division FC Reading. After promotion to the third division in 1979, he spent the next four seasons as a regular player in the Football League Third Division before Reading 1982/83 relegation back to the fourth league. Also, thanks to a strong playing Lawrie Sanchez ( 45 Ligaspiele/10 goals) reached the club in 1984 to direct resurgence.

Wimbledon FC (1984-1994)

In December 1984, he moved to second division side FC Wimbledon. In the season 1985/86 Lawrie Sanchez rose to ( 42 league games / 9 goals) with his team in third place in the first division. Northern Ireland national team (1986-1989)

The son of an Ecuadorian father and a Northern Irish mother debuted on November 12, 1986 in the Northern Ireland national team in a 0-0 draw against Turkey. In 1989, he played two more matches against Spain and Malta.

Coaching career

After his first coaching position at the Irish club Sligo Rovers Lawrie Sanchez works 1995-1999 of the coaching staff at FC Wimbledon. On 5 February 1999 he took over the head coaching job with the English third division side Wycombe Wanderers. In addition to average results in the league, the collection was the semi-finals of the FA Cup 2000 /01 the biggest success of his tenure. On 30 September 2003 he was released after a false start.

On 21 January 2004, he was hired as the new Northern Ireland coach. The previously winless team for three years showed in qualifying for the 2006 World Cup as the fourth of six teams perform better.
