1987–88 in English football
The Football League First Division 1987/88 was the 89th season of the Football League First Division English as the highest football league. It began on August 15, 1987 and ended on 15 May 1988. FC Liverpool won with nine points adrift of second-placed Manchester United meanwhile his 17th championship. Behind ranked with a further more or less distinct residue Nottingham Forest as well as the defending champion FC Everton. Of the two climbers Derby County and Portsmouth only Derby were able to keep a tight distance from a point to class. In addition to Portsmouth Chelsea had (after a defeat in the play-off final against second division side Middlesbrough FC ), FC Watford and Oxford United line up the aisle in the Second Division. Because of the subsequent reduction League from 21 to 20 teams were the four losers for the following season, only the three newly promoted second division Millwall FC, Aston Villa and Middlesbrough FC contrary.
A total of 482 players were used, with the Southampton FC with 19 the least and Tottenham Hotspur with 28 mustered the most players in league games. 92 newcomers were offset by 112 footballers who most recently came into play in the season 1987/88.
