1949–50 in English football

The Football League First Division 1949/50, was the 51th season of the Football League First Division English as the highest football league. Holders FC Portsmouth won ahead of the tied Wolverhampton Wanderers the second English championship in their history. Both promoted FC Fulham and West Bromwich Albion could get the class; instead had to Manchester City and Birmingham City to transition into the Second Division compete. These two teams should be in the following season replaced by the two newly promoted second division Tottenham Hotspur and Sheffield Wednesday.

A total of 523 players were used, where the FC Fulham with 19 the least and Huddersfield Town with 30 mustered the most players in league games. 135 newcomers were offset by 129 footballers who most recently came into play in the 1949/50 season.
