Borja Oubiña

Borja Oubiña Meléndez ( born May 17, 1982 in Vigo ) is a Spanish football player. The defensive midfielder is since 2004 the Spanish club Celta Vigo under contract.

Career

Oubiña, the youth division Celta Vigo successfully went through since 1994, debuted in 2004 the pro squad of the Galicians. Under coach Miguel Ángel Lotina he became one of the top performers of the team. After the descent of the club in the season 2006/ 07 Oubiña expressed the desire to leave the club. On 31 August 2007, he was awarded for one year to the English first division club Birmingham City. He made his debut for Birmingham on 15 September as a substitute against Bolton Wanderers later. At the next game, he stood against Liverpool in the starting lineup, but suffered after only 13 minutes a torn ACL in his left knee and was characterized by six months.

On February 9, his involvement in Birmingham was terminated by mutual consent, and he returned to Spain.

Oubiña came in 2006 two appearances in the Spanish national team. He made his debut in the European Championship qualifier against Liechtenstein in September, when he came on after 69 minutes for David Albelda. Two months later he was substituted at half-time in a friendly against Romania ( final score 0:1 ).
