Bornum am Elm

Bornum am Elm is a district of Konigslutter with about 850 inhabitants and is located on the northern edge of the Elms at 127 m above sea level. NN in the district of Helmstedt.

History

Was first documented in 1135 Bornum in connection with the construction of the Collegiate Church of St. Peter and Paul (known as Imperial Cathedral ) in King Lutter. The name comes from the Low German term Born, which means as much as well, spring; the ending- at is the beveled shape of Bornhem, Bornheim.

Originally owned by the pen Lutter, the Good Bornum was given in the following centuries by the Brunswick dukes to various feudal lords. From 1465 to 1706, with brief interruptions was the family of Wendessen vassal of Bornumer. In 1764, Philipp von Westphalen bought the manor Bornum, the friend and secretary of Duke Ferdinand of Brunswick- Lüneburg. Being born in Bornum son Ludwig von Westphalen was the mentor and father in law of Karl Marx. Merger with Wolfsburg

On March 14, 2013, the City Council of King Lutter has decided unanimously to enter merger negotiations with the city of Wolfsburg. Coat of arms
