Borodino (village), Mozhaysky District, Moscow Oblast

Borodino (Russian Бородино ) is a village in Russia with about 60 inhabitants, which was first documented in 1601. It is located about 100 km west of Moscow and 12 km west of the city Mozhaisk on the right bank of the Moscow River. Administratively, it belongs to Rajon Mozhaisk in the Moscow Oblast.

History

This occurred on September 7, 1812 between the French army of Napoleon I and the Russian General Kutuzov at the Battle of Borodino. In October 1941, the Battle of Moscow took place during the Second World War here. Today the place is known as the Military History Museum Reserve Borodino, on the former battlefield is since 1839 a monument to commemorate the battle of 1812. The Saviour Monastery of Borodino ( Спасо - Бородинский монастырь ) was founded in 1817 in place, it serves since 1992 as a nunnery.
