Borrowdale

Borrowdale is a valley and civil parish in the Lake District in the English county of Cumbria. It is in the traditional county of Cumberland, and is sometimes referred to as Cumberland Borrowdale in order to distinguish it from a homonymous valley in Westmorland.

The valley is located approximately in the middle of the Lake District. It is considered scenic extraordinarily attractive, is surrounded on all sides by high mountains and is drained by the River Derwent to the north, which forms the Derwent Water at the bottom of the valley. There are near small waterfalls and the valley is the starting point for the ascent of England's highest peaks, including the Sca Fell. In the sparsely populated area there is also an extensive civil parish (English civil parish ) named Borrowdale, part of the Borough of Allerdale and according to the 2001 census only counts just 438 inhabitants.
