Borský Mikuláš

Borský Mikuláš ( Slovak to 1960 " Borský Svätý Mikuláš " - to 1927 " Burský Svätý Mikuláš "; Bursanktnikolaus German, Hungarian Búrszentmiklós ) is a municipality in western Slovakia.

General

The municipality is located in Záhorská nížina in traditional Záhorie. North of the village is the river Myjava. The nature reserve Zahorie surrounds the town on three sides. The nearest towns are Šaštín - Stráže ( 5 km) and Senica (19 km).

Traffic Technically it is on the road II/590, which connects the municipality with the city Malacky; north of Myjavabrücke is the road II/500, a connection between Kúty and Senica ( and on to the Czech border ). The community also has its own rail connection through a stop on the railway line Trnava - Kúty.

The village was mentioned in documents in 1394.

To the municipality next to the main village belongs also the place Bory Peter (1975 amalgamated; German Bursanktpeter ).

The Slovak poet Ján Hollý was born here in 1785.
