Borsodszentgyörgy

Borsodszentgyörgy is a town in Borsod -Abaúj -Zemplén.

Geographical Location

Borsodszentgyörgy lies in northern Hungary, 50 kilometers from county capital Miskolc. A neighboring town is 6 km away Arló community, the nearest large city is Ózd, 9 km away.

History

The town was founded after the Mongol invasion in 1371 and was first mentioned by the name Disznós. At the time of the Turkish conquest of Eger, the village was destroyed and then came under Turkish rule. Because of high taxes, many residents left the village. 1629 the site was mentioned as Szentgyörgyfalu, after his patron saint George. Since the 18th century, the name Disznósd was used and since April 1, 1935 Borsodszentgyörgy. In the 20th century the population worked in agriculture, mining and industry.
