Boston College is the name of an aboveground station of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority ( MBTA ) on the campus of the eponymous Boston College in Boston's Brighton in the state of Massachusetts in the United States. It is western terminus of the branch "B" (also called " Boston College Line") and the Green Line has a small depot.

History

The station was opened under the name of Lake Street and initially served from 1909 to 1930 as a station for the Middlesex and Boston Street Railway. The former route is still visible through the green stripe in the middle of Commonwealth Avenue. During the construction of the campus of Boston College, the station was also renamed on 21 May 1947 by the Boston Elevated Railway, Boston College.

In 2007, the Boston College published a 10-year master plan, which provides for a relocation of the station on the median strip of Commonwealth Avenue. The college agreed to support the project financially and also provide needed plots available.

As part of an interim solution in 2009 the platforms were for 296,000 U.S. dollars renewed, the plans to move the station remained - at projected cost of 20 million U.S. dollars - but there are. A major advantage of the new location is seen in the fact that the vehicles of the Green Line in daily operation is no longer the need to cross Commonwealth Avenue, creating a congestion reduction by 89 % is expected. To get to the depot, but a link is still necessary.
