Government Center (MBTA-Station)

Government Center is an underground station of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority ( MBTA ) in Boston, Massachusetts in the United States. It provides access to the lines Blue Line and Green Line, and forms a central transfer point for those in the MBTA network. The connection to the Green Line was already in 1898, making the station the second oldest still in operation metro station in Boston.

History

On March 18, 1916, the station on the Blue Line was connected. Until the demolition of the Scollay Square in 1969, which was replaced by the square City Hall Plaza, the station was known as Scollay.

Special

Since there is no direct transit traffic between the Blue Line and the MBTA Red Line in the network, the station Government Center is diverted from the passengers for it, since from here easy access to the adjacent Park Street station is where both the Green Line as well as keep the Red Line. The metro station is therefore usually crowded, especially as the passengers of the Blueline who want to change to the Red Line, the trains of the Green Line between the two stations an additional burden during rush hour.
