Wonderland (MBTA-Station)

Wonderland is an underground station of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority ( MBTA ) in Revere, Massachusetts in the United States. It is the northern terminus of the Blue Line.

History

By the end of the 19th century, a station named Bath House was built north of the position of the present-day station for the Boston, Revere Beach and Lynn Railroad, but the company had to stop in the wake of the Great Depression its business operations in 1940. On 19 January 1954, opened at the same time with the stations and Beachmont Revere Beach station Wonderland and henceforth formed the terminus of the northern extension of the East Boston Tunnel, which was renamed the Blue Line in 1967. The original plans involved to also call the station Bath House, but eventually Amusement Park and the later at the same site active Wonderland Greyhound Park, the current name was chosen in reference to the nearby Wonderland.

Because of the Big Dig, the MBTA was legally forced to compensate for the higher pollution from the increased road transport.
