Botswana Railways

Botswana Railways (BR ) is the national railway company in Botswana, which was founded in 1987 through the acquisition of the in- country portion of the National Railways of Zimbabwe. It operates a 641 km long main route from the border of South Africa ( Ottoshoop / Ramatlabama ) about Gaborone, Lobatse and Francistown to Plumtree in Zimbabwe. This route was Lord Kitchener in the Second Boer War in Cape gauge ( 1067 mm) build. In addition, there are two stitch lines with a total length of 190 kilometers.

The BR operates exclusively rail freight transport of bulk goods, where coal, copper, soda ash, salt and meat ( in refrigerated wagons of the South African Transnet Freight Rail ) exported to South African ports and cement, wheat and fuel are imported.

In passenger drove a long night train pair between Lobatse and Francistown, which was set for economic and safety reasons, on 1 April 2009.
