Bougue

Bougue is a municipality in the Pays de Marsan in the Landes department in Aquitaine region of southern France. The inhabitants call themselves Bouguais (it). The population is currently 642 (as of 1 January 2011), in 1962 the figure was 344.

Geography

Bougue located between Mont -de- Marsan and Villeneuve, on the border between the Landes forest, the largest European forest area and the agricultural plains of the river Chalosse Midou. The town is crossed by the river Ludon.

History

Bouguereau was called in the Middle Ages and Boga in the 18th century Bougne.

Archaeological finds from the time of the Chalcolithic period show that the area was already between 4300 BC and 2200 BC settled. The name Bougue however, comes from the name of a Gaulish tribe, the Boii who settled about 800 BC there.

In 1976 a gold treasure was found from the Roman period after a storm in the vicinity of the village. It contained 12,000 pieces from the second half of the 3rd century, coins, which had been under Tetricus I, Claudius Gothicus and Valerian coined.

To Bougue 1116 was awarded by the Abbot of the Abbey of La Sauve -Majeure Wilhelm VIII of the right of Sauveté, which means that there could attack again. This Sauveté was characterized by four markers.

To 1135 the bishop of Aire Bonhomme donated the church of Saint Candide.

During the Wars of Religion, and especially Anno 1569 Bougue has suffered from looting and murder of the priests. During this period many inhabitants were forced into eauze and Manciet to fill the moats and destroy the fortifications. After returning a part of Bugue eauze et Manciet was called.

1819 community Agos became part of the community Bougues.

Christian Cenet was elected in 2008 as mayor.

Economy

The main industries in the municipality are agriculture and forestry. This includes rubber production and sale of rural products.

  • The Old Mill Moulin d' Agos.
  • The Romanesque church of Saint - Candide, whose church tower dates from the 11th century and whose stem is decorated with ornate wooden pillars.
  • The source Saint Clair, which is said to have healing powers and since the beginning of the 20th century is a place of pilgrimage.
