Bouna Coundoul (2011)

Bouna Coundoul ( born March 4, 1982 in Dakar ) is a Senegalese football goalkeeper who currently plays for the New York Red Bulls. Since 2007 he is also active in the Senegalese national team.

College

Coundoul attended from 2002 to 2004, the University at Albany, SUNY. There he played for the college soccer team. Previously, he attended the Martin L King Jr. High School in New York City. There he stood in the gate of the school team.

Club career

Colorado Rapids

In 2005 he signed with the Colorado Rapids and made ​​his debut in Major League Soccer on May 13, 2006, when he came in to replace the injured Joe Cannon in the 10th minute. In the next game, on May 20 against Los Angeles Galaxy, he was allowed to play for the first time from the start.

In the 2007 MLS season he was named goalkeeper of the team. In the very first game opponent was D.C. United, prevented a draw in the last minute. In January 2009, he could not agree on a contract extension with the Colorado Rapids and was released.

New York Red Bulls

On 29 June 2009 he moved to the Red Bulls. On July 25, he gave his commitment to his new team, which met away to the Colorado Rapids. By the end of the season, Coundoul could establish itself as a goalkeeper. On 30 November 2011, the Red Bulls pulled no option to extend the contract. Thus Coundoul participated in the MLS Re-Entry Draft part 2011, where he was selected by any team. Since then, he is without a club.

National

After his performances in the 2007 season Coundoul was first appointed to the national team in November 2007 by the Senegalese coach Henryk Kasperczak. His international debut he gave on 17 November 2007 in a friendly match against Mali as he came off the bench for the second half for Tony Sylva. In Africa Championship 2008, he played a game and was the first player from the MLS, who took part in the African Cup.
