The Boundary Bay Airport ( IATA: YDT, ICAO: CZBB ) is an airport located in the Canadian province of British Columbia. It is located 26 km south of Vancouver in the municipality of Delta, at the Boundary Bay near the border with the United States. Opened on 11 July 1983 the airport is mainly used for general aviation. It has facilities for aircraft maintenance, flight training and air traffic control training.

Due to the small distance to the Vancouver International Airport Boundary Bay is not served by commercial airliners. He is however served by charter flights and serves numerous smaller airlines maintenance base. Based on the number aircraft movements, it is the fifth largest airport in Canada.

History

After the start of the Commonwealth Air Training Plan in 1939, the Royal Canadian Air Force ( RCAF ) held out for suitable locations for the training of pilots. After 1940 land at the Boundary Bay were acquired, the training could be incorporated on April 10, 1941. As of July 1, 1943 the aircraft types Hawker Hurricane, Consolidated B -24 and Handley Page Hampden were stationed here. The last fighter aircraft took off on October 31, 1945 and 1946 joined the RCAF airfield.

From 1949 Boundary Bay was used for telecommunication and electronic reconnaissance in 1971 but closed again. The municipality of Delta used the area for exhibitions and auto racing. When it became clear that the nearby international airport general aviation could no longer cope, beat the Canadian Ministry of Transport before the reactivation of Boundary Bay. The airfield was significant expanded and reopened on 11 July 1983. After several changes of ownership operates since December 1, 2004 Alpha Aviation Airport.
