Bovinae

Eland

The Bovinae are a subfamily of Bovidae ( Bovidae ). They mainly include the animals described as cattle and goats in the German forest.

General

Is relatively large animals, with the largest species may reach a weight of 1000 kg. The males are often much larger than the females, they wear smooth horns. In some groups (such as cattle and eland ) have the females horns, but they are smaller. The typical of many Bovidae glands under the eyes or between the toes they lack, instead they have characteristic scent glands on the dew claws of the hind legs.

The animals in this group are located in Eurasia, Africa and North America. Some species have been domesticated and are now significant livestock, many wild species, however, threatened in their existence.

Boselaphini and Tragelaphini are called " forest bucks " means. However, since the Boselaphini are probably the sister taxon of all other Bovinae, the forest blocks are paraphyletic. The Vietnamese forest bark, which is run here in a separate genus group is closely related to the cattle and is sometimes also classified in this group.
