Boy & Bear

Boy & Bear is an Australian folk-rock band from Sydney, with the album Moonfire had their breakthrough in 2011.

History

The five original members knew each other from their time together at the university, where she initially played in various bands. Three of them were even head their own band. But they knew each other from joint appearances and had been so alongside jam for together. In early 2009 invited Dave Hosking the song The Storm at the transmitter Triple J high, where it was chosen in February for the feature song of the junior program Unearthed. From this then the joint project of Boy & Bear, along with Killian Gavin, Jake Tarasenko and brothers Tim and Jon Hart. The special features of the band heard the harmonious singing of the various front men and the versatile songwriting of the musicians who come from different musical orientations.

In the same year they released the joint piece Mexican Mavis. So they won the Unearthed competition from Triple J and was elected Artist of the Year. After the initial success of her single in Australian radio they signed a recording contract with Iceland Records Australia. Then they played the opening act of the Australia performances by Angus & Julia Stone, Mumford & Sons and Laura Marling, with Marling they were even in the UK and Tarasenko and Tim Hart even played in her backing band with. In the fall of 2010, she led the sold-out "Blood -to- Gold " tour through Australia.

2010 also appeared the first EP by Boy & Bear, entitled With Emperor Antarctica, containing in addition to the two well-known songs, three new songs. The next single, they released at the end of a cover of Fall at Your Feet by Crowded House. So they came in the top 50 of the Australian charts for the first time. The follow-up single Feeding Line was successful in the charts. Then the debut album Moonfire was released in summer 2011. It debuted at number two on the album charts and reached platinum status. They also won the ARIA Award 2011 so for album of the year. Four other awards they received, including the award for Best Music Group, and thus were the most successful artists in this presentation of the most important Australian Music Prize.

In May and June 2012 Boy & Bear toured again by Australia ( "Remember -the- Mexican " tour ) and completed in August after some appearances in Europe, including in St. Pölten in Austria. In October, the band announced that Jake Tarasenko has separated from the band. The sequel to " Moonfire " is entitled " Harlequin Dream" and was taken in Sydney.
