Božidar Ivanović

Bozidar Ivanović (Serbian Cyrillic: Божидар Ивановић; born August 24, 1949 in Cetinje, Yugoslavia ) is a Yugoslav chess grandmaster, who has worked in Montenegro as a politician and chess official. He was in the 1990s, Montenegrin Minister for Sport. Three times he was the Yugoslav Chess Championship win: 1973, 1981 and 1983 ( shared ). In 1996, he won the championship of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. His Elo rating is 2413 (as of January 2009)

Chess career

The title of International Master acquired Ivanović 1976. In 1978 he was appointed chess grandmaster.

He has represented Yugoslavia at once the U26 Olympiad, four times on Chess Olympiads, once at the European Team Championships and once at the World Team Cup. After that he played for Montenegro in 2007 at the European Team Championship. He achieved the following results:

  • Lucerne 1989 World Team Cup, first reserve player for Yugoslavia, 0 = 2 -1, team silver medal.
  • Novi Sad 1990 Olympics, third board for the second Yugoslav team, 4 -1 = 4
  • Yerevan 1996 Olympics, first board for Yugoslavia, 1 = 8 -2
  • Heraklion 2007 European Team Championship, second board for Montenegro, 0 = 2 -1

The longest part of his career has mainly played in Yugoslavia and the Balkan region, interrupted by occasional trips to North America and Western Europe Ivanović. He made his debut in 1968 in the finals of the Yugoslav Cup, but had yet to fight in the year. The following year he won with 9.5 out of 19 even. Game style

Attention was Ivanović's imaginative attack against Paul Keres in Sarajevo in 1972.
