Braňany

Braňany ( German: Prohn, formerly Bran, Brani, At the Gate ) is a Czech community in Okres Most. It is located on a road from Most to Bílina, at an altitude of 251 meters, from both sides surrounded by hills of the Bohemian Central Mountains and the Ore Mountains.

History

The town was first mentioned in 1239 as the rule of Wolzik de Brani. Beginning of the 14th century it belonged to Henry of At the Gate, Knights of giant castle. During the Hussite Wars the possession of the Lords was burned by the Red Court. In the 17th century the village belonged to the crusader rule Chanov. Later, the village belonged to the reigns of Teplitz. After the uprisings from 1618 to 1620 the village came to the Bohemian crown and was gradually sold. During the Second World War, the village came under the protectorate, the majority of Czech inhabitants fled to Kladno and Slany.

Economy

In the 19th century the mining began, and later ceramic industry. In addition, sand and gravel was mined. After the First World War, agricultural production began. Today, located in the village of companies in the food industry, plastics industry, wholesale gas and shoe and Arbeitsbekleidungsherseller.

1,168 inhabitants in 2003 (1922 - 973 ( of which 671 were German ), 1945 -. 916).

The municipality consists of the villages Braňany Braňany ( Prohn ) and Kaňkov ( Ganghof ), at the same time also form Katastralbezirke.
