Choice analysis

The choice was determined by the country - such as through nationwide political issues.

The state - SPD and Matthias Platzeck received by the citizens good grades. A clear majority of the population Matthias Platzeck wanted as prime minister. The country - SPD was positively rated on a scale from 5 to -5 satisfaction with 0.6 (PDS: 0.1; CDU -0.4 ).

The high losses of the SPD were therefore primarily due to nationwide political influences. The Federal Party was rated significantly worse than the -0.6 country - SPD. One of the main reasons was the reform policy of the Federal Government Gerhard Schröder. PDS and DVU had solid obtained against these reforms position in the election campaign. As a result, 39% of respondents assessed the PDS as "social party" ( SPD: 32 %, 9%). 83% of the DVU followers did the reforms to be wrong. The choice can therefore be understood as a protest vote against Hartz IV.

The losses of the CDU were to a large extent a result of poor assessment of the policy of the state government. Only 35 % found this to be good, 42% contrast for bad.
