Braniff International Airways was an American airline based in Dallas and home base to the Dallas / Fort Worth Airport.

History

Braniff was founded in 1928.

From the mid- 1960s took advantage of a Braniff the zeitgeist customized, flashy corporate design, which appeared all the way to the aircraft itself in flashy uni- colors. Thus, for example, were the Boeing 747-100 full orange, red, and some of the 747-200 Douglas DC- 8 fully painted blue.

Between 1979 and 1980, Braniff offered in cooperation with Air France and British Airways flights on the Concorde to and from Washington Dulles.

The company turned to flight operations May 12, 1982 due to inability to pay. The main reasons cited rising fuel prices and increased competition were called, which emerged after the liberalization of the U.S. airline market. Others saw an unsuccessful expansion policy of the company as the reason.

In 1984, Hyatt the rights to the brand and started again as an airline under the name Braniff, but noted as early as 1989 the operation again. Finally, in 1991 failed the third attempt under this brand.

Destinations

Focus of the route network of Braniff were domestic flights as well as connecting the United States with South America. In addition, including London -Gatwick and European destinations were served.
