Bratislava–Dunajská Streda–Komarno railway

The railway line Bratislava - Komárno is a branch line in Slovakia. Guides you through the south-western Slovakia by the planar Great Rye Island ( Žitný ostrov ), a river island, almost parallel to the Danube and connects the capital Bratislava with the majority of Hungarian-speaking cities Dunajská Streda and Komárno.

History

The line was opened in two sections of two different companies: the first was the section Bratislava - Dunajská Streda on 23 August 1895 in operation, the second part after Komárno was opened on 17 November 1896. These companies combined in 1903 to local railway Bratislava - Komárom.

The original terminus was at the railway station in Bratislava Bratislava Nivy east of the old town (formerly Bratislava Nové Mesto - not to be confused with the present station ). Since the 1980s, the path ends at the present station Bratislava - Nové Mesto north of the center.

Current rail operations

The track is now single track and electrified only in short ranges in Bratislava and Komárno. It run commuter trains from Bratislava to Dunajská Streda and Komárno. Since March 2012, the transport of RegioJet ( Student Agency ) is operated, employing cars Talent railcars. This is the first track in Slovakia with a private operator.
