Braulio Rodríguez Plaza

Braulio Rodríguez Plaza ( born January 27, 1944 in Aldea del Fresno, Comunidad de Madrid, Spain) is Archbishop of Toledo.

Life

Braulio Rodríguez Plaza occurred in 1960 in the seminary of the Archdiocese of Madrid one. After studying philosophy and Catholic theology he received on 3 April 1972, the sacrament of Holy Orders.

From 1972 to 1977 worked Braulio Rodríguez Plaza in Cubas de la Sagra as a priest. Addition, he graduated in 1973 at the Pontifical University of Comillas, a Licentiate in Biblical Theology specialist. Then he was in the Parish of San Miguel in Madrid Carabanchel and 1979 parochial vicar. From 1979 to 1981 Braulio Rodríguez Plaza studied in Jerusalem at the École Biblique and obtained a Diploma in Biblical exegesis. Rodríguez Plaza was from 1981 to 1984 pastor of the parish of San Fulgencio in Madrid. After that he worked until 1987 in the formation of priests of the Archdiocese of Madrid.

On November 6, 1987, Pope John Paul II appointed Bishop of Osma - Soria. He received his episcopal consecration on 20 December 1987, the then Apostolic Nuncio to Spain, Archbishop Mario Tagliaferri; Co-consecrators were the Archbishop of Madrid, Cardinal Ángel Suquía, and the Archbishop of Burgos, Teodoro Fernández Cardenal. Rodríguez Plaza to chose the motto No me avergüenzo del Evangelio ( " I am not ashamed of the gospel "), which is taken from the letter of Paul to the Romans (Rom 1.16 EU). 1990 Braulio Rodríguez Plaza at the Theological Faculty of Northern Spain in Burgos with an exegetical dissertation entitled " El proceso de Jesús ante el Sanedrín y la catequesis cristiana primitiva " ( "The Trial of Jesus before the Sanhedrin and the Early Christian catechesis " ) to the doctor theology doctorate. On 12 May 1995, Pope John Paul II appointed Bishop of Salamanca. The inauguration took place on 9 July 1995.

On 28 August 2002, Pope John Paul II appointed Archbishop of Valladolid. The inauguration took place on 13 October 2002. The pallium was Braulio Rodríguez Plaza on June 29, 2003 by Pope John Paul II in Rome. On 16 April 2009 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him. Archbishop of Toledo and thus to the Roman Catholic Primate of Spain. The inauguration took place on 21 June 2009.

Since the Archdiocese of Toledo is traditionally connected with the cardinal bishopric, Rodríguez Plaza is considered contenders for the cardinalate.
