Braunsel

The Braunsel in the eponymous nature reserve

The Braunsel is a left tributary of the Danube at Rechtenstein in Baden-Württemberg. It is, with a length of just 920 m to the shortest side of the Danube.

Braunselquellen

Like the blue, the Brenz and the Aach springs the Braunsel as karst spring at the edge of Emeringener mountain forest. The 32 sources can at times up to 1,500 liters per second pour ( an average of 400 l / s). The water comes in large part from the seepage points of the Lauter between Indelhausen and Lauterach. The entire catchment area of ​​the source probably goes even further beyond the Big Lauter Valley.

Course

The approximately 6 meters wide, clear spring river flows through the eponymous nature reserve and ends at the foot of Hochwarthfelsen into the Danube. At high tide, the two rivers unite to a lake.

Conservation

The Braunsel is especially protected since 1991. A 40 -hectare area on the districts Emeringen and Rechtenstein was declared by the Government of Tübingen nature reserve Braunsel.
